"Autumn Lockwood Makes History as First Black Woman Coach to Win Super Bowl with Philadelphia Eagles"

In a historic achievement, Autumn Lockwood, the Philadelphia Eagles' associate performance coach, has become the first Black woman to win a Super Bowl as a coach. This milestone was reached following the Eagles' decisive 40-22 victory over the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LIX.

Lockwood's journey with the Eagles began in 2022 when she joined as a strength and conditioning associate. Her dedication and expertise led to a promotion in 2023 to associate performance coach. Prior to her tenure with the Eagles, Lockwood gained valuable experience in sports performance roles at the University of Houston and East Tennessee State University. Notably, in 2019, she interned with the Atlanta Falcons' strength staff, marking her initial foray into the NFL.

This accomplishment is particularly significant in the context of the NFL's ongoing challenges with diversity in coaching positions. As of the 2024 season, only six Black head coaches were leading teams, and women remained underrepresented in coaching roles across the league.

Lockwood's success has garnered widespread acclaim. Tennis legend Billie Jean King celebrated the achievement, stating, "Outstanding! Cheers to Autumn Lockwood, the first Black woman coach to win a Super Bowl! She is the Assistant Performance Coach for the Eagles." Additionally, the University of Arizona’s soccer program, where Lockwood previously contributed, honored her by posting, "SUPER BOWL CHAMPION AUTUMN LOCKWOOD!"

Autumn Lockwood's groundbreaking accomplishment not only highlights her personal dedication and expertise but also serves as an inspiration, underscoring the importance of diversity and inclusion within professional sports.
