Houston Rapper Sauce Walka Among Two Shot in Downtown Memphis

Houston rapper Sauce Walka, born Albert Walker Mondane, was one of two individuals shot in downtown Memphis on Saturday afternoon, his family confirmed. The incident also involved his artist, Sayso P, near the FedExForum.

According to Memphis police, the shooting occurred around 2:42 p.m. on Lt. George W. Lee Avenue. Tragically, Mondane's associate, whose identity has not been officially released, succumbed to their injuries. Mondane himself sustained a gunshot wound to the thigh and was transported to the hospital. His father, Albert Walker—affectionately called "Poppa Sauce" by fans—told KHOU 11 News that his son is alert and expected to recover.

"Had it not been for God, my son wouldn't be here," Walker said in an interview.

Authorities have classified the shooting as a targeted attack rather than a random act of violence. A suspect vehicle has been identified, but no arrests have been made at this time.

The fatal shooting took place outside a hotel near the FedExForum, prompting a large police and emergency response. Multiple law enforcement vehicles were spotted outside the Westin Hotel at Second Street and Lt. George W. Lee Avenue. As a precaution, B.B. King Boulevard was temporarily closed from Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard to Beale Street.

Reports from HTX Media, a Houston-based news outlet, suggest that Mondane and Sayso P had been shopping in downtown Memphis when assailants drove up and opened fire before fleeing the scene. Witnesses told the outlet they heard between three and five gunshots. While HTX Media reported that Sauce Walka is in stable condition, they also claimed that Sayso P did not survive. However, FOX13 has not officially confirmed the involvement of the two artists.

Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
